It publishes research articles, theoretical essays, case studies, and critical reviews addressing topics such as scientific communication, open access, Open Science, editorial innovation, and academic visibility. The journal accepts contributions in Spanish, English, and Portuguese, and promotes double-blind peer review as a guarantee of quality and academic rigor.

Public Knowledge Journal is an independent academic publication sustained by a network of volunteer contributors and technical support from institutions dedicated to scholarly communication. It receives partial infrastructure and digital preservation support through the Public Knowledge Project (PKP) and participates in the PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN) to ensure perpetual access to its content. The journal charges no publication fees (APCs) nor submission costs, maintaining its commitment to an equitable and open publishing model.
